Our recent post Food School questionnaire, completed by parents attending the programme with their children, highlighted the following: they all found the course beneficial, they felt the course was good value for money and would recommend it to their friends. The children enjoyed the course and tasted new food. All parents felt that their own and their child’s stress levels were reduced at mealtimes. The parents also felt more able to introduce new foods into their child’s diet after completing the course.

Our Food School Programme enables opportunities for the children to watch and learn from each other and share in the food fun together. We find children often encourage each other to progress along the steps to eating whilst working in a group. Parents also find that meeting other parents who are experiencing similar difficulties around mealtimes can be very beneficial, as it enables opportunities to share experiences and support one another.

The group session fees include therapy input from the Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist and two Therapy Assistants as well as advice from the Dietician. A registered first aid trainer also teaches parents how to deal with choking.

We are flexible where we run the courses so we can fit in with parent’s needs. Our main criteria being the venue is compatible with our 5-star food hygiene rating. We will consider running a course at your child’s school, if we think this would be appropriate following discussion with yourself and the school.

Individual therapy sessions are carried out in your home, which enables family members to be involved in the sessions. If any extended family members help with childcare and meals, it also presents a great opportunity for them to join in some of the sessions. Individual therapy allows for food to be tailored to your child’s specific needs, which is ideal if your child has a food allergy. Following discussion with you, Jacqueline will give you a list of foods to get each week for the session. The session lasts for 60 minutes.

Depending on your child’s difficulties, it may be necessary for your child to also be assessed by the Speech and Language Therapist. If this is necessary, the initial assessment will be carried out jointly with Marian and Jacqueline in your home with the assessment lasting approximately 90 minutes.

Course Title:Individual Food Therapy (10 weeks)

If your child finds group situations difficult, has food allergies or is over age 10 then individual sessions are likely to be the most appropriate therapy for your child. Jacqueline will discuss your child’s difficulties and ask you to complete a pre-assessment form to determine the most appropriate assessment for your child which will take place in your home.
